Year 6 Classes
Welcome to Year 6
Welcome to Drake class with Miss Williams and Mrs Smith. We are both so excited to be working together in Year 6 this year with our amazing new class. We will be learning about lots of interesting topics this year. In ‘Blue Planet’, we will learn about life in the oceans and the difficulties that they face, such as the rise of plastic pollution. We will learn about lots of different cultures and the history of different countries, as well as a brand-new style of art (Manga) in our ‘Asian Adventure’ topic. In our ‘WW1’ topic (my favourite), we will find out about what life was really like for soldiers fighting in the trenches, as well as how life was different for those back home too. We will also have lots of opportunities to practise our PE and art skills, as well as learning how to become a kinder citizen in both our ‘Mind To Be Kind’ and Jigsaw sessions. We can also look forward to our weekly Fri-yay sessions where we will get to try lots of fun new activities and improve our communication skills. This year really will be packed full of fun and learning and is sure to be a fantastic final year at Swingate.
Welcome to Columbus class with Miss Harpum and Mrs Harmer. We are very excited about the busy year ahead engaging in some fantastic learning. We are particularly excited to get stuck in to our thrilling topics! During the year we will dive in to learning about life under the ocean, discover the impact humans have on sea life, explore the Asian culture and even be transported back to 1914. We will also take part in lots of fun year 6 activities, make lots more memories and celebrate the children’s last year at Swingate. The class is full of enthusiastic learners who try their hardest, support each other and are ready for the challenges ahead.
Welcome to Kingsley class. My name is Miss Rokosz and I am the class teacher. I have been a teacher for many years and for many years now I have been working with Year 6 pupils here at Swingate Primary School. I am really looking forward to meeting you all again in September as we are going to learn lots of exciting new topics. I love travelling and seeing new places, meeting new people and trying new things. However, my passion is Maths; the challenge of thinking through and the process of concluding the solution are what always attract me to the subject. I hope you will enjoy our Maths lessons too. In Kingsley classroom, we have a beautiful reading area and access to the school field during SAS and lunch playtimes.
I love animals and have a cat called Rudy (it means “ginger” in Polish). Can you guess what colour he is? Do you have any pets?
I look forward to meeting with you all and hearing about your summer adventures.
Welcome to Earhart Class taught by Mr Long and Mrs Tilley.
As much as we are sad that this is our last year at Swingate (as we will all be heading off to secondary schools), we are having a “whale” of a time this term learning about our Blue Planet and all the wonderful creatures that live in it. We are also thinking about the impact that humans have on the world and ocean, especially by our plastic pollution. Next term however we will need to fasten our seatbelts and make sure our tray tables are in the upright and locked position as we head of on an Asian Adventure learning about the mountains, countries and wonders of the largest and most populous of our world’s continents. We are also looking forward to learning about the Great War later on in the year. We shall be looking at the start of the impact of World War I and how it has impacted the lives that we lead today. Quite a year I think you'll agree.
