Forest School

What is Forest School?

At Swingate Primary School we are lucky to have amazing woodland that is accessed by Nursey through to Year 6.  The Forest School approach initiated from Scandinavia, where learning in the outdoors has been a key part of their curriculum since the 1950s.  Forest School is the use of  a woodland setting all year round whenever possible. It allows children to develop independence, confidence and self-esteem.  Learning can be linked to the National Curriculum and whole school themes.  The sessions provide children with the freedom to explore using multiple senses.

We need your help!

To ensure your child benefits from their Forest School experience please provide the following...

Spare socks, we like to stomp in the mud and jump in puddles. A warm top with long sleeves.

Welly boots are great in the wet winter months, trainers are best suited to the drier spring and summer.

All foot wear needs to be in a separate plastic bag for transporting from class to the woodland cabin.

  • Gloves and scarf, we get cold exploring.
  • A warm coat to keep us dry.
  • A hat to keep our heads warm and dry.
  • Old trousers to wipe our muddy hands on.
