Year 6 Classes

Welcome to Year 6

Jaguar Class

Welcome to Jaguar Class with Mrs O’Connor and Mrs Gawu! This year promises to be filled with engaging and enriching learning experiences. Together, we will dive into a range of fascinating topics, including exploring the oceans, embarking on Asian adventures and travelling back to 1914 to uncover the events of World War I.

Alongside our exciting curriculum, we have planned a variety of memorable activities. These include a visit to replica trenches, as well as exhilarating end‑of‑year celebrations such as a day trip to Chessington, Classtonbury, and our Year 6 production. These experiences will not only help us create wonderful memories but also allow us to celebrate our collective achievements in our final year at Swingate.

In Jaguar Class, we encompass our school values of bravery, resilience, empathy and responsibility. Our enthusiastic learners support one another as a team and together we are ready to embrace the challenges and opportunities ahead.

Wolf Class

Welcome to Wolf Class with Miss Mckinnon and Mrs Tilley.  Wolves are known for their fierce stamina, determination and problem-solving skills – just like the children in Wolf Class! This year, we’re ready to channel our inner wolf to face new challenges and strengthen ourselves as a pack. During the year, we will dive into learning about life under the ocean and the impact humans have on sea life, we will explore the Asian culture and even be transported back to 1914 for WW1. Beyond the four walls of our classroom, we are excited to visit the trenches and face our fears at Chessington World of Adventures. In Wolf Class, we will demonstrate bravery, empathy, resilience and responsibility to conquer some of our greatest challenges yet to ensure our last year at Swingate Primary will be the best!

Bison Class

Get ready for a fantastic year of learning, laughter and discovery! My name is Miss Rokosz and I am delighted to be part of your child’s final year at Swingate Primary.

Year 6 is a truly special time — full of new experiences, growing independence and memories that will stay with us for years to come. In Bison Class, we love asking questions and exploring the world around us. Together, we’ll dive beneath the waves to uncover the wonders of our oceans, learning about the incredible creatures that live there and the importance of caring for our planet. We’ll then journey across Asia, discovering its vibrant cultures, remarkable landscapes and rich history. Later in the year, we'll step back in time to learn about the Great War, developing empathy and understanding through the stories of those who experienced it.

Year 6 is about much more than lessons. We’ll welcome special visitors, enjoy exciting trips and take on a variety of new challenges together. There will be opportunities to be creative, work as a team, try new things and, most importantly, have plenty of fun along the way. As we strengthen our reading, writing and maths skills, I’ll be encouraging every child to challenge themselves, take pride in their progress and feel prepared for the exciting move to secondary school.

And, of course, we’ll end the year with our much-anticipated Leavers’ Play. Watching the children grow in confidence as they learn their lines, sing together and perform on stage for their families is always a very special part of Year 6. Throughout the year, we’ll embrace Swingate’s values of Empathy, Bravery, Resilience and Responsibility. My aim is to create a classroom where every child feels happy, supported and inspired to give their best. I can't wait to share this special year with Bison Class — it’s going to be one full of unforgettable moments

Panther Class

Welcome to Panther Class with Mrs Seymour and Mrs Patel. Our class is named after the black panther because it represents many of the qualities we value in our classroom. Like the black panther, we strive to be confident, resilient and independent learners who are always ready to embrace new challenges. Panthers are known for being focused, patient and determined, and we aim to demonstrate these qualities every day by working hard, supporting one another and never giving up when learning becomes challenging.

This year, our learning journey will take us beneath the waves as we explore the fascinating world of ocean life. We will travel back in time to discover the events leading up to and during World War I as well as immerging ourselves into the Asian culture.

Learning at Swingate extends far beyond the classroom. We'll take part in exciting hands-on experiences, including visiting World War I trenches and challenging ourselves at Chessington World of Adventures, where we'll have the opportunity to face our fears, build confidence and create unforgettable memories together.

Together, we'll make this a year full of curiosity, achievement, friendship and fun - making your last year at Swingate your best one yet!
