Year 6 Classes

Welcome to Year 6

We are Drake Class and we have had a fantastic start to the year. We have all settled well into Year 6 and are setting a great example to the rest of the school. This term we are enjoying learning about the World War 1, as well as reading our class book – War Horse by Michael Morpurgo. We are looking forward to all of the exciting things that we will be learning throughout the rest of the year. We want to make our last year at Swingate the best one!

What a wonderful start to the year we’ve had, I am really looking forward to getting to know the children better over the coming year. Columbus Class has settled quickly in to year 6 and have embraced all that I have asked of them - setting a good example to the rest of the school.

This term we are learning about WW1 using Warhorse as a stimulus. The children thoroughly enjoyed the visit from some horses as well as attending the theatre to watch the Warhorse - something I know will be a lasting memory. Our class book this term is Warhorse by Michael Morpurgo and we will be using aspects of this book as part of class learning looking at the role of horses during World War 1 as well as learning about life in the trenches to write some emotive letters home.

We hope you are enjoying the opportunity to come into the class every Friday. If you haven’t managed to visit us yet don’t worry, every Friday from 3pm you are welcome to. We are looking forward to an exciting year ahead with lots of enjoyable topics we will be learning about.

We want to make our last year at Swingate a memorable one and the best yet!

I’m Miss Rokosz and I have the pleasure to teach in Kingsley class. It was amazing to see so many familiar faces rushing through the door on the first day of school and the days after. The children looked well-rested and very eager to learn – such a fantastic sight for every teacher. The year ahead of us is filled with lots of challenges as well as fun and exciting things to do like watching War Horse at the Marlow Theatre. As Year 6 is the last year of primary school, I aim to prepare the children for becoming more independent in their learning; showing them to take an ownership for their achievements. I hope that I can infect my class with the love of reading thanks’ to which they’ll learn, experience character’s feeling and see the world beyond their own.
