Year 4 Classes

Welcome to Year 4

We are really looking forward to the year ahead. We will be learning about the natural phenomena of earthquakes and volcanoes. We can’t wait to learn about the Ancient Greeks and their gods and goddesses. We will discover how the Anglo Saxons and Vikings invaded Britain and how that affects our lives today. We will also learn about the Norman Conquest and even recreate a battle or two! We will find out about the different types of deserts around the world and learn about the animals and plants that live there. Our topics will inspire lots of art, craft and design throughout the year. Of course there will be reading, writing, maths and science as well as computing and RE, PSHE, music, French, PE and much more. We look forward to the many theme days ahead, lunch time and after school clubs and our school trip. This year is going to be jam packed with so many interesting experiences and we can’t wait to get started!

Hello! We are Kite Class and we are enjoying our first term back at Swingate Primary School. We have been working hard on spelling strategies this term to help us to learn our spellings in a more efficient way. Our author of the term is Roald Dahl and we are enjoying our learning based around his book ‘Danny the Champion of the World’ in our English and SLoR lessons. We are working hard to improve our writing and presentation and have spent the beginning of term consolidating our knowledge of place value in maths.

Throughout the rest of the term, we are looking forward to learning more about our topic earthquakes and volcanoes. We have already made some fantastic paper mache volcanoes and we are excited to carry out experiments in our science unit of states of matter.

Falcons are an enthusiastic bunch, who are really enjoying their topic of volcanoes and earthquakes zones.  Their 3-d models have been especially impressive! They have also been working hard this term to improve their writing and have especially enjoyed the work around our author of the term, Roald Dahl.

In maths we have been working on our basic number facts and trying really hard to secure our knowledge of our times tables.

This year we will be working hard to secure our spelling strategies and our understanding of words and how to put them into context.  The children are already used to finding alternative words and opposite meanings.

They have made such a great start, that they are sure to do well this year.
